The Policing Pledge (Posted @ 27-3-2009)

Introductiion to The Policing Pledge :  It’s a new set of promises from the police on the service they should provide and every force has committed to keeping those promises.  The police promise to listen to your concerns, act on these concerns, and then keep you informed of the progress they’ve made. Each neighbourhood will have locally agreed priorities, as agreed by the community.

RCSF Contacts List (Updated @ 5 October 2009)

There is no "Rotherhithe Community" without people of goodwill and dedication who work positively and effectively to help build, maintain and continually develop it in response to the ever-changing times and needs.  Please take good care, remain vigilant and offer assistance to our "Community Safety Service Providers" to help build a safer, more caring and more giving Rotherhithe Community where people will want to live, visit and work.

Effective "Crime Reporting" often requires calling the right people at the right time.  Please keep the "RCSF Contacts List" below within easy access and tell all the other people who may benefit from it where to find it for future reference.

Please note that neither the Rotherhithe & Surrey Docks Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams nor the Rotherhithe Community Wardens are intended to provide "Emergency Response".

Please always dial "999" for "Emergency Services" as soon as possible when it is safe for you to do so where there is an Immediate Risk to Life or Personal Safety as well as to report any crime that is being committed or which has just been committed and there is a good chance of the offender(s) still being nearby.  Please telephone 24-Hour Switchboard on 0300-123-1212 for "All Non-Emergency Calls" where police may be required to attend but not immediately or regarding matters where police should be made aware of (e.g. A Domestic Burglary has taken place but no suspect has been seen).  When reporting crimes and related incidents to the police, please always ask for the "Police Crime Number" or "CAD (Computer Assisted Despatch) Number" (e.g.  8763 / 271105 for a crime report filed on 27-11-2005) specifically allocated for each incident reported to the police to ensure its incorporation in the "Recorded Crime Statistics" to help secure the necessary support and policing resource for tackling the problems successfully.  Please always note the "Date" and "Time" when you telephone to report an incident for potential follow-up purpose.

Southwark Council's "It's You Call" 24-Hour Non-Emergency Anti-Social Behaviour Reporting Hotline (Tel: 020-7525-5777) is intended to be a "One Stop Call" for accessing Southwark Council's services that are designated for dealing with Anti-Social Behaviour, especially when no immediate response is required or possible or when the callers have little idea as to how to go about reporting the incidents to the "Authorities".

 SAFER  NEIGHBOURHOOD  POLICE  TEAMS

Safer Neighbourhood Teams are all about delivering local policing. Each team is dedicated to each ward and as a result they have a unique understanding of the concerns and characteristics that make up each individual area.

We are working directly with the community to listen to their local needs and concerns and then find a suitable solution. These might be issues that range from anti-social behaviour on your street to graffiti on your estate. Whatever the issue they will work together with communities to make Southwark safer.

Malcolm Tillyer : Chief Superintendent - Borough Commander

"The past year has seen the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Southwark go from strength to strength. Relationships between each team and their local communities have grown stronger and the level of trust between the two has increased. This is so important because without it, the police's job of tackling crime is so much harder. This level of trust and confidence has also encouraged more people to talk to us and feel more comfortable about reporting anti-social behaviour. The Safer Neighbourhood Teams will continue to build on this good work and deliver the high quality of policing that the people of Southwark deserve."

Mark Antill : Chief Inspector - Neighbourhood Operations Manager

"The Safer Neighbourhoods programme has allowed a more personal style of policing, specific to the needs of Southwark Communities, and this has proven to be a real success. It gives communities the type of policing that they want and as a result it has seen crime and anti-social behaviour drop. Each team is dedicated to each Ward and seeks to involve local people  in achieving long term sustainable resolutions to local concerns. It is through this interaction that we can truly understand the community's priorities and deliver a service which makes a real difference."

Jeff Hook : Southwark Council - Executive Member for Community Safety
"We firmly believe that feeling safe in your own neighbourhood is a right and not a privilege. Southwark’s community wardens play a vital role alongside Safer Neighbourhood Teams in creating safer communities. Community wardens and police are now working more closely together than ever before and we’ve reshaped the warden service to make them more visible. They are tackling issues at the times when the local community need them the most - this is exactly what local people want. Gone are the days when different agencies worked in isolation - Southwark is leading the way in joint working between the police and council”.

Chief Superintendent Ian Thomas (BOCU Commander) (Former Southwark Police Commander) : ".....  There is a huge commitment amongst my staff to build relationships with both communities and partners that will enable us to reduce crime and the fear of crime.  There have been many successes over the last year where my Safer Neighbourhood Teams have tackled crime and anti-social behaviours identified by local people.  They have been able to do this because communities have felt safe in reporting them to us, and the confident that we would deal with them effectively....".

Chief Inspector Chris Hafford (Southwark Safer Neighbourhood Manager) : "......  I would urge everyone to get to know their local team and to help us make Southwark a safer place for residents and visitors alike."
