The Policing Pledge (Posted @ 27-3-2009)Introductiion to The Policing Pledge : It’s a new set of promises from the police on the service they should provide and every force has committed to keeping those promises. The police promise to listen to your concerns, act on these concerns, and then keep you informed of the progress they’ve made. Each neighbourhood will have locally agreed priorities, as agreed by the community.

START OF SUB-INDEX OF RECORDS (002)
The Downtown Defence Campaign (DDC) was created in November 2002 as a non-political neighbourhood self-help group that exists soley for the purpose of safeguarding the interests of the Rotherhithe Community. Development plans for SE16 6NP were deemed by many to pose a serious threat to local homes and parkland (Russia Dock Woodland and Stave Hill Ecology Park) and the DDC was formed to ensure that planning projects fit in with the needs of the local community.

An emergency is when a crime is happening, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, someone is injured, being threatened or in danger.
For example:
If your house is being burgled (or the suspect is nearby) call 999
If your car is being stolen (or the suspect is nearby) call 999
Call 0300 123 1212 when you need to report crime that is not an emergency.
For example:
If your house has been burgled call 0300 123 1212
If your car has been stolen call 0300 123 1212
This number has been introduced to make it simpler for you to contact the police and to help reduce the amount of inappropriate 999 calls. You can call it any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Local call charges apply from BT lines in London. Mobiles and other networks may vary.
You can also call 0300 123 1212 when you need to speak to your local police, seek advice on police matters or comment on the service you have received from the Metropolitan Police.
If you are deaf or have speech impairment you can use a textphone to call the police. Dial 18000 in an emergency, or 18001 if your call is not an emergency. The MPS call operators have access to professional interpreters so they can quickly translate your call if you cannot, or have difficulty, speaking English.

If a member of the public ran into any police officer having just been robbed then of course that officer would do everything to help that victim including reporting the crime. The 0300 number is not a new system, it is simply the new telephone number the Met have launched to replace the old number for reporting non urgent crimes.

Dear Friends
Can anyone help me. There were 3 statues mounted on concrete on the grass verge around Surrey Water.
They had the shoes and legs of little girls but the body of one was a tree trunk the other a fir tree and the third I can't remember. When I passed by this morning all that was left were the three sets of shoes, it looks like the bodies have been cut off.
I telephoned the Southwark News and asked them to investigate. I have tried to contact the wardens (left a message) I didn't even try the council as the environmental centre have trouble understanding the most basic of queries. It is impossible to get hold of anyone in the council who knows what you are talking about. Probably manned by expensive agency staff.
Vandalism never seems to be chased up.
